A native of Arizona, Doris Goodale was born in Tucson, Arizona (March 8, 1949) and raised primarily in Kingman, Arizona. My step-father was a Superintendent on pipeline construction, thus our family made many moves, although always having a home in Kingman. I attended 27 schools throughout the United States and Canada, graduating from Mohave County Union High School in 1967. Following high school, I attended Phoenix College and Arizona State University.

On February 10, 2006, I ended a 34 year career with Mohave County which included more than 22 years in management. My career with Mohave County began in 1971, with the Mohave County Sheriff’s Department. In 1973 I became employed by the Honorable Frank X Gordon, Jr., and joined the Mohave County Probation Department, beginning my career in a department of two probation officers, one secretary and 6 detention officers. I served 13 years assigned as a juvenile officer rising to the level of Assistant Chief in l975. In 1986 I transferred to the adult division where I served as Assistant Chief Probation Officer until my retirement.

I have served on several statewide committees relative to probation services. I was appointed by Governor Raoul Castro to serve on the Governor’s Task Force on Marriage and Family from 1976-1978 under Governors Castro and Bolin. I have served in many capacities on local and state committees related to probation. I was a member of the committee which developed the origin of Intensive Probation Supervision Program in Arizona. I was an original member of the statewide Performance Measures Committee, which is charged with monitoring the effectiveness of adult probation programs through statistical analysis and was a member of the Educational Sub-committee for Curriculum, an oversight committee to review and approve all educational curriculum taught to all levels of probation departments in Arizona.

Native Arizonan, District 3 resident for past 50 years. Married for 34 years to William Goodale, consultant for community and economic development. Two children, two step-daughters and 3 grandchildren.

During my career with the creative leadership of Rod Marquardt, Chief Probation Officer, I was responsible for the development and implementation of new and innovative programs for the Mohave Probation Department’s Adult Division. I developed and implemented the first guidelines and procedures for specialized caseload management of youthful offenders and sex offenders. I created the local sex offender task force. Additionally, I authored the department’s Peer Assistance Response Team, a trained contingent of staff to deal effectively with crisis situation involving fellow staff members. I created and implemented the Probation Support Orientation program, which is to explain and introduce probation issues and policies to family/significant others of newly placed probationers to increase their chances of successfully completing probation. I also assisted in the development of defensive tactics training classes and firearms training class, as in 2005, probation officers were granted approval to carry firearms in the performance of their duties. I completed the 40 hour defensive tactics training class and subsequent required training classes. I also completed the 40 hours firearms training academy, was approved to carry a firearm.

In 2000 I was recognized by the Arizona Chief Probation Officer Association as the “Supervisor of the Year” throughout Arizona. In 2005, I again received recognition from my peers, by receiving the annual “Round of Applause” Judicial Employee Recognition Award.

I was elected to Kingman Elementary School District, Governing Board in 1988 and continue to serve on the recently merged Kingman Unified School District being elected five times. I retired from the school board upon serving for 18 years.

Recognizing the importance of academic achievement, I worked as a school board member and President to insure proper funding for programs and staff and coordinated the search and the hiring of 3 new school superintendents.

I worked tirelessly for the unification of the two school districts in Kingman which combined to form Kingman Unified School District #20. In recognition of my expertise with school unification, in 2005, Governor Janet Napolitano named me to the K-12 School District / Redistrict Commission which is charged with studying school district unification Statewide and is charged with making a recommendation to the Governor, Senate and Representatives by 2007.

In 2005, I was recognized for educational leadership in Arizona by being named to the 2005 “All State School Board”, an award given by the Arizona School Boards Association which honors outstanding school board members in the State.

Recognized for 33 yrs Service by Mohave County Supervisors.

I strongly believe in civic duty and volunteerism. I have served on the following civic organizations: the Kingman Youth Football League, Board of Directors, for 12 years, and was the first women president; Kingman Drug Free Alliance for 10 years; Kingman Parks and Recreation Commission and the Kingman Historical Preservation Commission. In 1995, I was honored to be the recipient of the first “Andy” Award for “Citizen of the Year” by the Kingman Chamber of Commerce. In 2006 I was awarded the “Mohave County Women Making History Award”.

Presently, I am a Board Member on the Kingman Community Methamphetamine Coalition; the vice-chair for the Mohave Substance Treatment, Education Prevention Partnership (MSTEPP); board member of the Kingman Cancer Care Unit, and Publicity Chairperson. I am also a Board member for the Kingman Partnership for Children With Special Needs. I am a member of the Kingman Republican Women’s Club and sit as Chairman for the Educational Committee. I am a member of Manzanita Baptist Church, prior Sunday school teacher and on the Pulpit Committee to seek a new pastor. I am a founding member of the Kingman Community Vision group.

I have been married to Bill Goodale for 33 years. He is a consultant for community and economic development. I have two adult children, Stephanie and Michael Goodale; two step daughters, Beth Randrup and Jennifer Goodale; and three grandchildren, Phillip, Logan and Dustin, our autistic special angel. I have a twin sister, Diana Logas, who is a 35 year teacher with our local school district, past principal and now teaching 8th grade language arts in a local middle school. My brother, John Wells, is a former firefighter and now works for the City of Kingman.
